How to use waste glass Aug 25,2022

The recycled broken glass frit is a good material for the production of glass beads, glass mosaics, colored glass balls, glass surfaces, glass bricks, artificial glass marble, foam glass, etc.

The glass container industry uses over 20% cullet in the manufacturing process to facilitate melting and mixing with raw materials such as sand, limestone, and others.

When using recycled glass packaging bottles (or broken glass frit) as raw materials for glass products, the following issues should be noted .

(1) Remove impurities

Contaminants such as impurity metals and ceramics must be removed from glass recyclables because glass container manufacturers need to use high-purity raw materials. For example, metal lids, etc. in cullet form oxides that can interfere with furnace operations; ceramics and other foreign substances create defects in container production.


(2) Color selection

Colored glass cannot be used in the manufacture of colorless flint glass, and only 10% green or flint glass is allowed in the production of amber glass, so the post-consumer cullet must be color-picked by hand or by machine. Broken glass can only be used to produce light green glass containers if it is used directly without color picking. 

The transformation and utilization of recycled glass bottle packaging refers to the direct processing of recycled glass packaging into other useful materials.

This utilization method is divided into two types, one is heating and the other is non-heating .

 

1. Non-heating 

Non-heated utilization is also called mechanical utilization. The specific method is to directly pulverize the recycled broken glass according to the use situation or to pre-process the recycled broken glass such as cleaning, classification and drying, and then use mechanical methods to pulverize them into small particles, or grind them into small glass balls for use. There are several ways to use it:

①Use glass fragments as a combination of pavement, building bricks, glass wool insulation materials and honeycomb structural materials;

②The shattered glass is directly mixed with the building material components to make a part of the whole building

③ The shattered container glass can also be used to make reflector materials and decorations for clothing;

④It is used to decorate the building surface to make it have beautiful optical effect;

⑤ It can be directly ground into various shapes, and then glued into arts and crafts or small decorations such as buttons.

⑥The mixture of glass and plastic waste can be molded into synthetic slate products.

⑦ Can be used to produce sewage pipes.

 

2. Heating

The heating type is to smash the waste glass, melt it in a high temperature melting furnace, and then use the method of rapid wire drawing to make glass fiber. This kind of glass fiber can be widely used in the preparation of asbestos tiles, glass cylinders and various building materials and daily necessities.

The production of glass bottles is one of the most energy-intensive packaging products. It is very valuable to recycle.
